4-3-3, 4-2-3-1, 4-2-4, 3-5-2, 3-4-1-2… many formations used during a crazy season, if we exclude the conquest of the Italian Cup. This aspect also denoted some confusion within Catania, passing through two re-establishments of the staff in the summer and in the winter session of the transfer market. Until Michele Zeoli managed to frame the team more precisely by regularly adopting the 3-5-2.
Catania built in a less than impeccable way with several players not in the best physical condition and, in some cases, with technical characteristics that clashed with the tactical ideas of successive coaches. Zeoli, however, found it the right dress allowing the team to express themselves better on the pitch. Even at the cost of leaving players with very important CVs on the bench like Chiricò. Because the good of Catania counts and every single element of the squad must adapt to the specific needs of the team.
That’s the basic idea do not upset Catania tactically, beyond the numerous players destined to change shirts. Placing the right pieces one by one three-man defensive line which will be the starting point for next season. It is no coincidence that a coach like Domenico Toscano, who is only waiting to sign with Catania once he has resolved the agreement with Cesena, habitually practices the 3-5-2 and variations such as the 3-4-1-2 and sometimes the 3-4-3. It is no mystery that the three-back system is currently the most widespread in Italy and the identikit of the Calabrian coach coincides perfectly with Catania’s ideas.
