Cycle visit to Imola: explore twentieth-century architecture by bicycle

The Cycle Visits organized by the Order of Architects of Bologna are back. On Saturday 15 June 2024, starting from 10.00 am, the Order of Architects of Bologna, in collaboration with the Segni del Moderno Association and the Municipal Historical Archive of Imola, invites all lovers of architecture and history to participate in the Cycle visit “Imola 900. Architecture, places, authors”. The event, free and open to all, will offer a unique opportunity to explore some of the most significant architectural projects of the twentieth century in Imola, with a tour that embraces the historic center of the city and its immediate surroundings.

Discovering Imola by bike

The meeting place is in Via Emilia 80, in the small square next to the Municipal Library of Imola. The urban route of the cycle visit will touch on various architectural works created both before and after the Second World War. The tour will end at the Municipal Library, located in the former convent of San Francesco. The Municipal Historical Archive has been located here since 1902, and will host a presentation of documents and projects relating to the themes of the visit. This will be a precious moment to delve deeper into and discuss some important Imola works which, due to distance or other logistical impediments, cannot be visited during the route.

How to participate

Participation in the cycle tour is free and open, but registration via email is appreciated. Participating architects will be able to request 1 self-certified Professional Training Credit (CFP). For registration and information write to [email protected] or call 051/4399016 (Gaia, Secretariat of the Order of Architects). More info here.

Intermodality and bike sharing

The initiative also promotes sustainable mobility, suggesting the use of the train+bike intermodality formula to reach Imola from Bologna. Furthermore, the RideMovi bike sharing service is also available in Imola, the same one used in Bologna, for those who prefer not to bring their own bicycle. Personal bicycles can be loaded onto Trenitalia regional trains that run the Bologna-Imola route (for further details, consult the Trenitalia website).

Website and additional information

For further details on the event and to explore the itineraries of past cycle visits, the new website dedicated to cycle visits is available: www.ciclovisite.it. This site collects the experience of an activity organized without interruption since June 2007, offering a dynamic overview of the contents and themes addressed over the years.

The Cycle Visits are organized by the Archives Group of the Order of Architects of Bologna, with the patronage of the Municipality of Bologna, the Metropolitan City of Bologna, the Emilia-Romagna Region and the Ghigi Rusconi Urban Innovation Foundation (BO). The event is organized in collaboration with the Cycling Tourism Fair, Bikeitalia.it, Shimano and komoot.
