GALLARATE – The “Let’s Save the Trees of Gallarate” Committee continues initiatives to save from demolition the forest of via Curtatonelocated in the area close to the motorway overpass intended, from Grow29 project. The area is in fact destined to host the new campus, bringing together the schools of the schools in a single complex neighborhoods of Cascinetta and Cajello.

Walk in the greenery

To know and defend the forest of via Curtatone, the Committee has organised, Saturday 15 Juneone collective walk within this green areawith the guidance of Walter Guenzania highly experienced non-professional ornithologist, who has worked as a volunteer for environmental associations such as the for decades Lipu (Italian Bird Protection League) and the Thurs (Insubric Ornithology Group). «His great knowledge of the natural world, of birds and animal species in general, will help us to discover little visible and unknown aspects of this urban forest, a small but precious corner of natural greenery that risks being cut down», explain the promoters. Guenzani developed an observation of the biodiversity of this territory for the Committee, obtaining a precise report on the richness of the life forms that we can find there. During the walk he will share the conclusions of his research with the participants, will explain the ecosystem of this forest and will guide you in observing the traces of the species that populate it.

It’s not the right place

For those present, underlining by the Committee, «this will also be an opportunity to see and travel in person the area where the new school complex is planned to be builtsqueezed between the railway and motorway networks: where today the trees constitute a natural barrier that protects the neighborhood from noise and pollution, tomorrow there could be hundreds of students, children from 3 to 10 years old, forced into inadequate school spaces and unhealthy.” Representatives of the Committee will explain the different aspects of the project on site and they will be able to discuss it with the participants.

The petition

Also the petition promoted by the Committee, which has now reached 400 signatures, asks that the funds from the Grow29 project, «destined for urban regeneration and not for new overbuilding», be used for the renovation of neighborhood schools and for the revitalization of this same green area. «The forest in via Curtatone – she concludes – could become, if properly managed and cared for, and not left in a state of abandonment as now, a true place of refreshment for the benefit of the inhabitants of the neighbourhood».
The meeting is scheduled for 10am at the Cajello cemetery car park, in via Curtatone. «Towns and citizens are invited to participate and give their contribution to know and save this green corner of Gallarate together with the schools of our neighborhoods: two precious common assets for the future of all of us and of the next generations».
