Carmelo Russo, the man who set fire to the dog Aron last January in Via delle Croci, subsequently causing his death, will no longer be able to “own, acquire ownership of and/or keep animals of any kind and species for any reason, even temporarily, throughout the municipal territory”. This was established today, on the proposal of the councilor for animal welfare Fabrizio Ferrandelli, by mayor Roberto Lagalla by signing a specific ordinance. This is also extended to any cohabitants of Russo and the veterinary service of the ASP Palermo and the municipal police will periodically check compliance by seizing any animals found.

According to councilor Ferrandelli “This was a necessary act in the context of a criminal and cowardly action which caused pain and death to a dog and which greatly shocked all local and national public opinion. This is also confirmation of my attention and that of the entire Administration for the welfare of animals which are and will always be an integral part of our community. Thanks go to Mayor Lagalla for the sensitivity shown on the subject and to those associations who have been close to us, also soliciting the support. ‘issuance of this sacrosanct provision”.
