Free beaches of Latina sea without lifeguards.
With executive resolution 1106/2024 the municipal administration admits, in black and white, that it took such a long time to complete the tender for the beach rescue service that it was forced to entrust, for a good part of the bathing season, the same service in a manner direct.
The Municipality of Latina admits the delays
We read it in the act published on the Municipality’s website.
“Noting that the times for carrying out the open public tender procedure require such a timeframe that it is expected to be concluded presumably by mid-July that is, well into the bathing season.”
And again: “currently on the stretches of free beach, in the absence of lifeguard stations, suitable signs have been placed indicating the ban on bathing”.
Therefore, “it is considered necessary to proceed with a direct assignment of the service”.
The opposition: there is a lack of transparency in documents and security for citizens
The opposition municipal councilor Dario Bellini comments in a polemical tone on the absence of lifeguards on the beaches of Latina:
“In spite of the lost savings that we will not have given the absence of the competition for a good part of the season, the lack of due transparency in the awarding of a public service, the lack of a public service so important for the safety of citizens that even today it is not carried out on the public beaches of our seafront”.
The nourishment project has been approved… in the middle of summer
In the meantime, the executive project for the has also been approved “soft nourishment” works on the beach of Capo Porter.
That is, bringing sand from the seabed to have more space available and safeguard the coast.
Also in this case the intervention comes after the season has already begun, and certainly the works – which will most likely be carried out in the month of July – will cause difficulties for swimmers and the establishments that operate on that stretch of Latina’s seafront.
The money available is 200 thousand euros, provided by the Lazio Region. With this last step and the approval of the last project, we can proceed with the awarding of the works.
