Everything is ready, in the spaces adjacent to the historic building Church of Santa Maria dei Greci of Fratte (Salerno), for the presentation of the next promoted activities from the Center for Legality of the social cooperative Galahadwith moral patronage of the Department of Social Policies of the Municipality of Salerno e of the Culture and Art Office of the Archdiocese of Salerno-Campagna-Acerno and in collaboration with the Parish of Saints Felice and Giovanni in Pastorano.
To present the project, Friday 14 June 2024, at 5.30 pm, at the Santa Maria dei Greci Church in Frattein Salerno (in front of the entrance to the car park of the Le Cotoniere Shopping Centre), the Councilor for Social Policies of the Municipality of Salerno, Paola De Roberto, the Director of the Culture and Art Office of the Archdiocese, the professor Lorella Parentethe parish priest of Santi Felice e Giovanni in Pastorano, Don Marco Raimondo and the president of the Galahad social cooperative, the journalist Marilia Parentein the presence, among others, of the parish communities of Matierno-Cappelle-Pastorano and some delegations from the animal rights world.
Concerned about the escalation of mistreatment and torture inflicted on animals in our territory, the volunteers of Center for Legality have, in fact, focused attention on the spread of cruelty and barbarism towards defenseless beings, such as, precisely, animals, as well as on spectacularization of horror through social media. Cconsidering that the mistreatment of animals during childhood, adolescence or adulthood represents a alarm bell which index of potential danger social future, the Galahad cooperative intended broaden its educational and social commitment through actions times to raise awareness of respect for animals, addressing the younger ones and making them “guardians” of those who have no voice.
From next autumn, the very young users of the Center for Legalityin collaboration with the St. Thomas Aquinas Comprehensive Institutewill also be protagonists of awareness-raising initiatives and promotion of solidarity collections aimed at kennels, catteries and animals in difficulty, with the aim of educating the young generations to empathy with every creature, averting the dehumanization and desensitization that spread throughout society.
In the meantime, as part of these activities, the first city cat park was set up, entitled to Lion, the kitten skinned alive in Angri. This is the first protected running area for domestic cats, a sign of attention for the felines who will be able to give vent to their repressed energies by savoring that sense of freedom in the greenery, important but often necessarily denied to cats in apartments, for safety reasons.
The Cat park, equipped with ad hoc nets and themed furnishings, including tunnels and games for cats, it instead gives back to cats moments of adventure in nature, without risks, among seedlings that are not harmful to animals donated by the Salerno nursery Avaglianothanks to the precious support of senior president of Coldiretti SalernoEnzo Galdi. The green space, adjacent to the Santa Maria Dei Greci church, will be accessible via experimental openings, in the summer period, and will be accessible for free, in scheduled shifts, by regularly vaccinated and sterilized domestic cats, accompanied by their owners. In the same space they will also be organized social initiatives and cultural open to the whole community.
