Federfarma Salerno and ASL Salerno start collaboration for an oncological prevention campaign as part of the regional trial of the service pharmacy

Breast cancer (women aged between 50 and 69); cervical cancer (women aged between 25 and 64); and colorectal cancer (men and women aged 50 to 74 years).
There are three types of free oncological screening provided for by the 2024 prevention campaign launched by Federfarma Salerno in the pharmacies of the province following the agreement reached with the city’s local health authority, as part of the regional protocol for the testing of the service pharmacy.
«For female tumors», we read in an official note from the owners’ union, «in the pharmacy it will be possible to book to carry out mammography and pap tests in the clinics and hospitals of the Salerno local health authority. Waiting times are extremely short, ranging from three to five days, maximum limit. For colorectal cancer through the fecal occult blood test, it will be possible to collect the stool collection kit from the pharmacy and subsequently deliver it to the pharmacy. The pharmacist will be responsible for getting the kit to the Salerno ASL laboratories within a very short time.”
The strategic role of pharmacies
«This activity», explains the president of Federfarma Salerno Francesco Cristofano, «confirms the strategic role of the pharmacy in the National Health System, giving a further boost to the so-called Service Pharmacy established by the Ministry of Health which allows the provision of professional services and services to citizens also by pharmacies. It was the general director of the Salerno ASL, Gennaro Sosto, to whom our thanks go, who accelerated the collaboration with the pharmacies. We hope that thanks to our territorial presence and the convenience of opening hours, we can increase the number of people signing up for screening, also allowing us to achieve the objectives set by the essential levels of assistance. The primary objective is to guarantee healthcare to citizens by promoting the culture of prevention.”
