We are in the San Vito Alto area in Cosenza, precisely in Piazza S. De Chiara and the pedestrian crossing going up Via Andrea Cefali.
There is a construction site that has been abandoned for at least 15 days or perhaps even more: an unsustainable situation with increasingly smelly air. The residents have called the Municipality – which evidently cannot fail to know – but no one knows how to respond, as well as the municipal police.
From the photographs taken by citizens it is clear that the danger is very high, both on a health and physical level for the many people passing through, especially on the public pedestrian street. Furthermore, as mentioned, there is smelly air due to the sewer manholes being left half open.
There is no sign posted there – as it should be by law – with the data regarding the works, the project, the contractor, the director of the works, the amount and so on.
The Municipality cannot answer, the traffic police say it is not their responsibility. What needs to be done?
Let’s assume that the work starts with a company that won a tender, but as usual another subcontracted one pops up and so on… the work started blindly because there was no map of water and sewerage pipes.
“A few years ago – a citizen wrote to us – we unfortunately realized that the sewer drains ended up underground, fortunately both the houses and the entire area are made up of large stones which drained until everything went back to the ground floor . This company – apart from the fact that no hydrogeological survey was carried out – had severed a water pipe, leaving us without water for 7 days, employing only two workers who did everything. To date, the construction site has been left as you can see in the photos for over 15 days, creating considerable inconvenience, very deep open manholes, holes from which mice are obviously coming out… We tried to get the traffic police to intervene and they mistreated us on the phone. I called the municipality several times but no one is able to give explanations. And the situation now becomes unsustainable with the arrival of the heat. And so we thought of Iacchite’”.
