ANCONA

Satisfied with the result that will take him to Europe, but with his thoughts always turned to the Marche region. Having obtained around 105 thousand preferences, a historic result in our region, the new European parliamentarian Matteo Ricci comments on his electoral result, focusing above all on local politics, making himself available to the regional secretariat to work together in “building a valid project from which the recovery of the Pd” and the forces of the center-left of the Marche and renewing his public challenge to the President of the Region, Francesco Acquaroli. “I no longer want to hear that these European elections were a test for me in view of the regional elections – he said during the press conference in Ancona –. I ran to win, knowing that I could count on the support of many people from the Marche region, from which I received over 52 thousand preferences, on my media exposure and by making a political agreement with the Roman Democratic Party, which was decisive. Over 40 thousand preferences arrived from Lazio and without that contribution it would have been impossible. Now I will go to Europe with pride but as I have I also promised during my electoral campaign I will be even more present in the Marche, even more than during this period. I am convinced that having polarized the political match between us and Acquaroli was convenient for the Democratic Party, because of the discontent with what is happening in this period. region is very high: just think of healthcare, which is in complete chaos, without a plan, with the lack of doctors and nurses and the waiting lists that are increasing”.

But Ricci does not even spare the attack on his party: “A third of the voters of the Democratic Party chose to write Ricci on the ballot paper – he says –. I am very satisfied and I sincerely thank those who supported me because all the people who voted for me , if lined up, they won’t even fit inside the San Siro stadium which has a capacity of 80 thousand people. It’s beautiful, but this result was achieved despite the ridicule received. Three candidates for the European Championships in the Marche region were a big mistake. In such a small region it is unthinkable to have so many candidates. If we had only had two, today Alessia Morani would be with me in the European Parliament. They wanted to spite me, but the negative effects were on everyone, so much so our national secretary also lost out because she didn’t get the votes she deserved here even though she did great.”

Matteo Ricci, after thanking all his traveling companions, turns to his regional secretary: “Today we need a united Democratic Party – says the former mayor of Pesaro –. Enough with the old issues, with the internal disagreements. available to the secretariat to build a new project, to arrive at the next electoral appointment with a competitive and prepared figure, who if necessary can also be a personality coming from the outside. I want to be considered a resource and not a threat. The right in the Marche it has proven to be very strong, but we have demonstrated that the Democratic Party is alive and combative, so much so that today in our region the opposition forces are essentially playing on equal terms with the government forces”.

Finally, Ricci also focuses on his ten years as administrator of the city of Pesaro: “They taught me that a good manager is evaluated not only by how he enters the Municipality but above all by how he leaves – he says –. In this last period I have felt like the last of the Mohicans: Pesaro was one of the few strongholds of the centre-left in the Marche but with the results of the European elections and the election of Andrea Biancani as mayor the citizens also confirmed a positive opinion of the outgoing council. They wanted to conquer Pesaro and not there they did it and the recovery of the Marche will start again from my city”.
