BARLETTA | WASTE ON THE BEACH, CLASH BETWEEN THE MAYOR AND DIRTY PEOPLE

There is much, too much waste on the beaches of Barletta. A plague, that of incivility, which still seems far from being eradicated, unlike the custom of consuming food and drink by the sea, then leaving the remains of this bivouac along the entire coast.
From west to east the phenomenon is repeated, so much so that it leads the mayor of the city of the challenge to listen to his dirty fellow citizens.
«Dear citizens – writes the Mayor Cosimo Cannito – during the summer period, after eating and drinking on the beach and surrounding areas, I ask you not to leave waste (food scraps, beer bottles, cans, plastic containers and napkins) and do not throw them on the sand, on the coast road or in waste paper bins, but take them home where they must be properly sorted.”
«The abandonment of waste – explains the mayor – is not only a reason for environmental pollution and poor respect for urban decorum, but also the cause of paying for that extra rubbish to be collected which costs so much to our municipal coffers. Keeping our city clean is not only the task of Bar.SASpA but of all of us.>>
Among the waste most present along the Barletta coasts are many bottles of beer and wine but above all many McDonald’s bags, demonstrating the habit, especially of young people, of consuming meals by the sea, which unfortunately is not followed by correct disposal.
“The image of the city – comments Mayor Cannito – passes through us and our behaviour: civilization is a guarantee for assigning added value to our heritage and an additional attraction for tourism development”.
