Municipality of Terni: back and forth on sexist accusations, Aniello: “attacked as a woman”, Cardinals: “slanderous accusations”

I read the words of the Councilor for Economic Development of Terni, in a mixture of hilarity and sorrow.

On the known facts, seeking cover from the absent mayor is already tragicomic in itself, as is observing the sidereal distances between private interactions and the public statements of former colleagues.

I repeat: I was attacked as a woman, in a vulgar attempt to break my intransigence, aimed at demanding respect for the rules.

But, in addition to fearing legal action against the undersigned in an attempt to diminish the violent tone, ferocious screams, slammed doors, fists on the table, I would first ask myself whether, as a public official, the interested party has represented to the prosecutors the state of the aquifers, described repeatedly to him and the entire council, with the hexavalent chromium and nickel still above the alarm thresholdamong other things, including fumes, dust and out-of-control exhaust.

In fact the only possible “balance between work, employment and the environment“, in a liberal democracy, hinges only on compliance with the lawimposed on everyone, starting from those production companies that have great social responsibilities.

Cardinali had also spoken to the Council about “personal commitment to ASTand then immediately corrected himself, reversing the question on an administrative level: well, I certainly consider anyone who takes on “personal commitments” a “friend” of AST, a very unfortunate expression for a public administrator. But it wasn’t the first.

In fact, the councilor added that “there is a vexatious attitude” towards them. Curious. But, in different circumstances, equally provablehe had even managed to say worse, suggesting to me, unsolicited: we shouldn’t make them feel controlled: can a public official speak like this?

As for groundwater contaminationfor the councilor It’s also the fault of urban waste”, thus bringing forward a partial and distorted vulgate, certainly not unwelcome to AST.

And on the related matter of the giant landfill, assets worth billions, given with ease to the octogenarian Cremonese squire on the skin of the city, here it is: it would have been good if Cardinali, before carrying out downward negotiations, to the exclusive advantage of the Company, had at least read both the electoral program and the Single Municipal Planning Document which is, par excellence, the planning act of Palazzo Spada.

But unfortunately in Italy little is read. In Terni even less.

So the councilor did not want to take into account the fact that, after 140 years, the steelworker on duty was asked to look for landfill sites outside the Conca. Cardinali instead imposed a non-solution on the council and the city, in the name of the ongoing environmental disaster, of which he evidently has no awareness whatsoever.

This is how it was done enormous political-financial favor to a company which, vice versa, should compensate for billions of damages caused to Terni, from the waste buried everywhere, to the urban and social mutilations of the war, up to the poisoned air, water, soil and food. Instead, even the infinite arrangement of the microscopic Rosselli park is the responsibility of public finances, let alone the rest!

Today Terni no longer has a guarantor on the environmental and health legality frontbecause, with these premises, with this ignorance of the problems, with this sloppiness, Viale Brin will always be the one to do the good and the bad weather, in the midst of a bureaucracy decidedly prone to their interests.

No open dispute about outlawed heavy metals, but not even a vibrant protest to gather the now Manzonian cries of workers who had turned to me, having so far been unheard even by some of the union representatives.

As for the rest of the mystifications and amnesias, the documents speak clearly: as it is known, the undersigned voted no to the resolution approving This memorandum of understanding, having been strangely emptied of any serious technical prescription, a catastrophic act on an environmental, health and financial level.

It is still believed the agreement reached was very serious and full of shadows, from its genesis to its definition, to its eventual execution; I consider the conduct of other subjects already reported to be equally anomalous, requiring necessary further investigation in ordinary judicial and accounting proceedings.

I have already presented very detailed complaints to various prosecutors’ officesgiven the unacceptable forcing and the serious crimes committed so far: the undersigned was in fact only there to rigorously defend public interests and to reject undue and mutual interference between the steel industry and the Public Administration.

Now it will be the magistrates who will verify who has done their job correctly and who has not

Mascia Aniello – former councilor for the environment of the municipality of Terni

Councilor Cardinali responds to the accusations of his former council colleague

“In thanking our colleagues on the Terni administration council – declares the councilor for economic development Sergio Cardinali – in order to clarify facts of which I am unjustly accused by the resigning Councillor, I intend to clarify some aspects of the matter which was the subject of public shame towards me.

The obvious differences on a political level, regarding the matter of the landfill and the Ast Program agreement, between myself and councilor Aniello have been clear to all political subjects and citizens of Terni in recent months as they have been widely reported in newspapers and on social media , and often the subject of various questions from the opposition in the City Council.
The clearest evidence came during the council vote on the resolution to make the landfill safe, in which councilor Aniello decided to vote against the document signed by all the others, after sharing and signing it.

I consider the accusations made absolutely unfounded, initially against a generic councillor, and subsequently clarified publicly by the Mayor that they concerned my person.

As already told in the previous statement by the other colleagues of the Council, while we discussed the political strategies of the AST affair, in the face of my firm defense of the political line reached which allows the coexistence of economic and industrial development with the surrounding environment, the councilor Aniello accused me in front of everyone of defend my friends in the steel mills suggesting a relationship unclear in my administrative work.

I would like to point out that this statement by Councilor Aniello occurred for the second time, as it had already been done in the past in the presence of only a few councilors. At that point I responded in a firm but polite manner to this defamatory and damaging accusation of my morality. .
A legitimate response in the face of an accusation as defamatory as it is gratuitous, aimed at discrediting the political work that went into creating the agreement signed with Ast by the Mayor of Terni.

It appears to be a serious mistake to improperly use topics that are a plague on our society such as those of sexism and gender violence, which have also seen me as an active protagonist in the fight against similar behaviors in the 35 years of militancy in the Union, also through agreements national contracts that I strongly supported and signed.
Faced with so many women who are victims of violence and remain silent, raising the issue of gender violence to make inroads into public opinion through pure political speculation, trying to demonize the actions of a colleague, now a “political opponent”, is a serious mistake.

In the same way as in the recent past, today I am working in the administration in order to find the best balance between work, employment and the environment, avoiding the social and economic problems that would arise to a possible closure of the plant, as advocated several times by councilor Aniello.
In the hope of seeing an immediate end to such infamy towards me, I reserve the right to intervene in the appropriate places to defend my person and my political-institutional role”.

Sergio Cardinali
