Wild boar emergency, Coldiretti’s requests to Prefect Ponta

COLDIRETTI MEETS THE PREFECT OF PIACENZA: MOBILIZATION AGAINST THE BOAR EMERGENCY – The director Roberto Gallizioli, accompanied by a delegation from Coldiretti, met the prefect Paolo Ponta to illustrate the reasons of primary importance and urgency.

Devastated fields, decimated crops, car accidents including fatal ones, siege in the countryside as well as in city centres. Without forgetting the serious problem of African Swine Fever, which has hit the Piacenza area hard. The presence of wild boars is not just a problem for farmers, but for everyone. The director of Coldiretti Piacenza Roberto Gallizioli illustrated the situation to the Prefect of Piacenza Paolo Ponta, during a meeting which took place on Thursday 6 June, and thus announced the start of a mobilization aimed at obtaining timely and effective responses to contain the presence of wild boars.

“We believe – explains Gallizioli – that this has now become a matter of primary importance and urgency, not only for agricultural companies, but for the safety of the entire community. Wild boars represent a growing danger, causing numerous road accidents in Italian cities and the countryside every year, putting people’s lives at risk and causing extensive damage to crops and agricultural properties. Added to this are the health and economic problems linked to the spread of Psa. I handed over to the Prefect – continues Gallizioli – all the material that represents the reason for Coldiretti’s mobilization in the fight against wild boars.

Coldiretti Piacenza is mobilizing and – explains director Gallizioli – this state will continue until we get what farmers, breeders, citizens and consumers deserve. As always, Coldiretti is ready to collaborate also from a technical point of view to achieve an indispensable result in the quickest possible time: reducing the number of wild boars that devastate our territory.

Farmers and breeders can no longer wait – notes the director -, while wild boars continue to devastate the fruits of their hard work, leaving behind only damage and desolation.

Coldiretti will continue to fight to obtain the necessary responses from the institutions. Management and containment of the wild boar population is an urgent priority that requires concrete and immediate action. The meeting with Prefect Ponta, whom I thank for the attention and availability he has shown on these issues – concludes Gallizioli – represents an important step towards a solution that protects the safety of people and the work of farmers and breeders.
