(Agen Food) – Gela, 11 June. – Of Claudia Pollara – The agricultural company Casa Grazia of Gela, in Sicily includes 200 hectares of table grape cultivations, almost all of which are planted with seedless varieties, with the exception of small estates planted with traditional varieties with seeds, but always of very high quality, also because the vineyards are quite young and very performing.
Angelo Brunetti, administrator of the company, reveals that the first harvests were carried out in mid-May and now we are in the midst of the early harvest campaign, with valuable varieties such as the Arra 30, white, and others with red grapes at the same time. Despite twenty years of experience in the table grape sector, Casa Grazia began this seedless adventure about ten years ago and in the last six years heavy investments have been made, especially in seedless varieties to reach the current surfaces .
Pioneers in Sicily for seedless grapes, today Casa Grazia grows a series of club grapes such as Arra, Bloom, Sunworld. The Autumn Crisp variety is also in production and therefore the production campaign will end with the late ones well into September. The range goes from white to red varieties, passing through rosé ones, with a certain success among both commercial partners and consumers.
The reason for the success of seedless is that young people prefer to avoid the task of eliminating seeds: a phenomenon initially relegated only to foreign countries, the USA and Northern Europe, which is increasingly manifesting itself in Italy too.
