The issue of the Municipal Slaughterhouse of Modica, which we remember was closed on the orders of the ASP and the Municipality of Modica due to the deemed existence of some structural and organizational critical issues on the part of the company “La County Macellazioni” entrusted with the management, remains in suspended at least until a solution is found that can satisfy all parties.

In fact, the company has started an intense dialogue with the administrations involved “in order to resolve, with a spirit of responsibility and a spirit of collaboration, any possible problem and thus allow the fastest restoration of the slaughtering activity in Modica, in full compliance with the needs of protecting the health of citizens and the well-being of animals and together for the benefit of the community of Modica breeders and all the workers involved”

This is what can be deduced from a statement that the lawyers Salvatore Giurdanella and Francesco Stornello, defenders of the company, made known to clarify the position of their client who, despite contesting the extent and relevance of all the critical issues that have been highlighted and which that led to the decision to close the facility seem to want to find a “peaceful” solution. In fact, at stake is the possibility, once an agreement is reached and the company takes care of resolving the disputed problems, of regaining management of the slaughterhouse at least until September when the tender will be presented. This would avoid the closure of the municipal slaughterhouse for the entire summer with the obvious difficulties that this would entail for Modica farmers forced to slaughter outside the city in Ragusa or Pozzallo.

Of course, the most important thing, if an agreement is reached, without resorting to a courtroom, is that all safety measures for the health of animals and consumers are respected and guaranteed. This is obviously not an issue that can be traded, and this is the guarantee that the administration responsible for the health of its citizens must give.
