ANCONA Three years’ imprisonment. This is the request forwarded yesterday by the Milan prosecutor’s office for the former Ancona rally and Gran Turismo champion Leonardo “Leo” Isolani, on trial for a series of commercial transactions undertaken with Irene Pivetti, former president of the Chamber, and deemed fraudulent by the public prosecution . Four years’ imprisonment was requested for the former deputy. The ruling is expected on September 26.
The reconstruction
The trial was based, for various reasons, on the crimes of tax evasion and self-laundering. At the center of the investigation is a series of commercial operations in 2016 worth around 10 million euros, in particular the sale of three Ferrari Granturismos which, according to the accusation, was used to launder proceeds resulting from tax crimes. The prosecutor’s office hypothesized an intermediation role of Only Italia, a company attributable to Pivetti, in operations of Isolani’s Team Racing. The latter’s objective, according to investigations by the Milan Financial Police, would have been to hide some assets, including the three cars, from the tax authorities. As reported in the indictment, if the driver’s aim was “to conceal the ownership of the goods and remove them” from the tax authorities, “the objective pursued by Irene Pivetti” would have been “to purchase the Isolani-Ferrari logo to sell it to a price ten times higher” than a Chinese group. According to the prosecutor’s office, the former president of the Chamber bought the brand for 1.2 million euros and then resold it to the Chinese company for “10 million”. According to the prosecutor’s office, the deal would have brought the former member “a hidden gain”. The prosecutor also asked for three years for Isolani’s wife, Manuela Mascoli, and for her daughter Giorgia Giovannelli. Only for the latter was recognition of generic mitigating circumstances requested.
