European elections: comments

Barbara Lori, councilor of the Emilia-Romagna Region: “With over 716 thousand votes, and a percentage of 36.11%, the Democratic Party firmly confirms itself as the leading political force in Emilia Romagna, helping to drive the party at a national level to an excellent 24.08%. In Parma, the Democratic Party recovered around 1800 votes compared to 2019 which, given the general decline in turnout, represents a significant figure. On the other hand, in our territory there has been an overall drop in votes, in absolute terms, for the Brothers of Italy and the Northern League. The result of the PD rewards the incessant work of many, and the presence of many administrators who, at every level, contribute to making Emilia Romagna one of the most advanced regions in Europe, from the economy to the protection of people’s rights. The Democratic Party therefore confirms itself as the most solid barrier against the most extreme right-wing groups, which unfortunately are advancing in Europe, and which we will continue to oppose with determination in the future too”.

Alleanza Verdi Sinistra at 9.52% marks a historic result in Parma
Special thanks to Dall’Olio for making the list fly (Sara Fallini, co-spokesperson for Green Europe Parma Enrico Ottolini, city councilor for Green Europe-Verdi-Possibile)

“In the context of a historic result in Italy, Alleanza Verdi Sinistra recorded an equally historic result in Parma, reaching 9.52% and clearly qualifying as the third city force. The data in the province of Parma is also very good with an overall 6.85%.
It is the first time that the Greens have reached these percentages in the city and in the Parma area.

For the result in Parma, credit must be given to Nicola Dall’Olio for having driven the list, thanks to an electoral campaign of great value which was able to mix European issues with local ones, always with accurate competence and keeping the flag of environmental content flying high. .
Parma confirms itself as a city with a European vision also thanks to our excellent result.

The combination of “green” issues with social and rights issues was rewarded in particular by the youth vote, as the first vote analyzes at a national level attest. Even in Parma we have felt this young wave growing in the last few days and we are particularly satisfied with it. It is a countertrend compared to Europe and this instills a lot of optimism for the future.

For a complete analysis we are waiting to know the names of those elected, but a grand return to the European Parliament is already looming for both the Greens and the Left and this makes us proud.

Returning to the local data, in the next few days we will open a reflection with the friends of Insieme a Sinistra, Sinistra Italiana and Possibile to evaluate how to proceed in the process of rooting ourselves in the territory which, for these European elections, has led us to express a candidacy of value as that of Dall’Olio, who achieved a satisfactory result with 7 thousand overall preferences in the North East constituency, although not enough to win the only seat in the constituency.

We also believe that the local centre-left, from the perspective of the so-called broad field, can no longer help but constructively discuss with us on the merits of a reorientation towards frankly more ecological choices of the policies to be implemented in the area”.

Fortunato Stramandinoli, regional secretary of the Italian Left

“The European black wave continues to spread, formations that in no uncertain terms identify with the cancer that has already lived in this part of the world and that, it seems, more and more European citizens do not know how or do not want to recognize, are growing and gathering consensus in all countries. In this context, we record an almost rarity in our country: the Green and Left Alliance not only exceeds the barrier but reaches over 6%, a result that in these terms we didn’t even expect, we clearly hoped for it but we know that the reality is different and that nothing is ever taken for granted; a result that goes against the trend, which has not been seen for some time. It means that the path we have decided to take is the right one, that we have started to sow better than other times, that we must continue to come out of our bubbles, that we are speaking the language of the future, of those generations that someone continues to say they are uninterested in politics but instead follow and respond.
In Emilia Romagna the level of consensus is 6.5%, with peaks of 12%, an important result that leads us to be a reality throughout the entire Emilia Romagna territory and projects us into a new political phase that we will face with commitment and conviction , as we have always done. We manage to elect Ilaria Salis and free her from the chains of a European country that has nothing to do with democracy; Mimmo Lucano collects the greatest number of preferences in our constituency and he too will be in Europe to fight against this black wave.
Let’s continue like this! For Peace, for social and environmental justice, in Europe as in Italy”.

M5S: Election Results? Cause of the strong abstentionism
note from the 5 Star Emilia-Romagna Movement, with the participation of the regional coordinators, senators Marco Croatti and Gabriele Lanzi, of the MEP Sabrina Pignedoli, of the deputy Stefania Ascari and of the regional councilor Silvia Piccinini

“The voting projections attest to the 5 Star Movement as the third political force.
The data shows increasingly lower participation in elections, with a notable decrease in voter turnout. This trend also negatively affected the results of our Movement, reducing the number of votes compared to previous elections.
We are aware that abstentionism was a determining factor in this election.
It is a signal that we cannot ignore and which pushes us to reflect on how to improve our engagement with citizens.
In any case, the 5 Star Movement will continue to work to best represent the interests of the community. Our commitment remains unchanged. We will continue to work to represent the voice of those who believe in our program by ensuring that our MEPs are consistent with the themes of the election campaign. In line with what our President Conte supported, we will assert our weight in favor of a progressive Italy that can constitute a serious alternative to this right.
We just have to thank all our supporters and those who participated in the vote. We promise to analyze the results in depth to find effective solutions and to better involve citizens in the next elections.
We are proud and happy for the confirmation of Sabrina Pignedoli, our MEP, who represents an important point of reference and a significant victory for our Movement”.
