The Carabinieri of Crotone received, through the single emergency number 112, a request for intervention from a woman residing in a neighborhood of the capital, who reported the phone call received by her elderly mother from a self-styled carabiniere.
The woman had been asked for money and valuables to avoid her daughter’s arrest following a road accident; the interlocutor had also said that a colleague would come by to collect what was requested.
The incident follows many others that unfortunately occur in the area, taking advantage of good faith and the fear generated by the prospect of damage to the loved ones of the victims.
In this case, however, the promptness and awareness of the old woman’s daughter, who realized what was happening and immediately called the real Carabinieri, and the equally timely intervention of the soldiers of the NOR of the Crotone Company allowed to stop the two individuals responsible for the now consummated scam.
MS, 27 years old, and PC, 19 years old, both Neapolitans, were in fact stopped in their car, a short distance from the victim’s home, by NOR patrols. At their disposal are the valuables that the woman had handed over, worth a few hundred of Euro.
They were then accompanied to the barracks, and from there to prison, on the orders of the Prosecutor, who agreed with the actions of the Carabinieri.
The attention paid by the victim’s daughter, who realized that the phone call was false, proved to be fundamental, together with the immediacy of the response of the force, which will now continue to collect elements to try to respond to other episodes of scams, even if only attempted.
