Varese C5 wants to take center stage, Di Nunzio: “Ambition and dedication, ready to raise the bar”

A vintage with a double face, complicated in the first part, satisfying in the second and which sends good signals for the future: Varese 5-a-side footballregistered in the national Serie B championship, closed the season with a playoff quarter-final in the last 4 days, after a season of many ups and downs.
The original team of Lavenobut who in the past season found the doors open at the Carnago building (“I thank the municipality of Carnago for all the availability shown towards us” states sporting director Di Nunzio, ed.), but does not forget its origins where it continues to develop the youth sector, an inexhaustible source of resources.

Sports director Ciro Di Nunzio takes stock of the situation:Our recent history starts from the merger between Varese and Laveno, a team with which we faced and won the C1 championship in a rather easy way, this allowed us to arrive in a national championship like the B series where we had difficulties often traveling on the wire of the razor between salvation and relegation, but then we operated wisely by inserting the right players, and we rebuilt a path that first allowed us to remain in Serie B with 4 days to spare and then, almost with a light heart, to travel heading towards the playoffs”. “We achieved an important milestone for being a newly promoted team, even if we didn’t manage to get beyond the quarter-finals, but now we know where to start from to raise the bar next seasonadds the director.

But that’s certainly not all:We are an ambitious company, our desire is to move up to A2 within two years, we are working hard for this, we have decided both to reconfirm mister Alessio Battaia and our athletic trainer Denis Nivuori, plus the goalkeeping trainer Michele Del Vitto who already followed our under19s, but also a good 80% of the squad because it is a group in in which we believe a lot, without forgetting the young people, a sporting side of great significance and in which I personally aim a lot, our own territory offers us important options from this point of view, we have 5 boys who come from Laveno, we care a lot about valorising the our geographical area”.

And speaking of young people he adds:We have a football school and an under 19, but we are also working to build an under 17, we believe a lot in the growth of these kids, you need to have patience and know how to manage them in the best way, but young people can really give you a lot”.

Finally, a look at the past and one at the future. When did you fall in love with this sport?
I’ve known it for about ten years but I’ve been actively experiencing it for three, for me it’s a beautiful, exciting sport, a sort of football done with the Play Station in which you really experience many dynamics and many actions without a moment’s respite, it’s the adrenaline with which you experience it which leads you to discover its charm, as you said I really fell in love with this sport, I’m just sorry it’s a bit too parochial, there should be more collaboration with 11-a-side football because both would benefit disciplines, and the football movement first and foremost should realize this”.
As for the future:I hope it’s rosy, we’re moving to make sure it’s like this, we want to move up to A2 but we’re also aiming for the Cup, we’re not precluding anything, we’re actively working on all fronts to see this reality that we hold dear grow.”.
