Viterbo – We receive and publish – Among the sixteen projects selected as part of the Lazio Contemporaneo public notice, promoted by the Lazio region and managed by LazioInnova, there is also Rural visions.

Rural visions is a project promoted by Arci Viterbo/Cantieri d’Arte for the Selva del Lamone in Farnese and involves a residency of about a month for three artists under 35 who will create works for the Reserve. The project focuses on the relationship with the rural landscape and local history to activate paths of listening and dialogue with nature. The project supports and enhances the research of Jacopo Rinaldi, Agnese Spolverini and Luca Marcelli Pitzalis who will be invited to create three works in the Selva, activating different dimensions of reflections on rural living, on oral history and on the geological and naturalistic peculiarities of the Selva del Lamone. Rural visions looks at the rural landscape as a vital and changing space, questioning persistent concepts that now identify internal areas, such as the inevitable marginality, residuality and peripherality of rural areas, in addition to the clichés to which this vision is attached : authenticity, provincialism, stability and tradition.

Repositioning the vision starting from rurality also means moving away from an urban-centric gaze and dealing with the increasingly evident transformations due to climate change and acquiring specific skills for the prevention and mitigation of the effects.

The artists’ projects will concern the places of the Selva and will also involve the Rittatore Von Willer Museum and, after the presentation event, they will also be presented at the Pastificio Cerere Foundation in Rome and in two residencies that operate within the Stare networks – Italian Association of artist residencies and BJCEM – Biennial of Young Artists of Europe and the Mediterranean.

The project is part of the process of valorising the Selva del Lamone nature reserve started with LLART- Lamone Land Art and is curated by Cantieri d’Arte, a territorial contemporary art project of Arci Viterbo.
