Polls closed yesterday at 11pm but we will have to wait until 2pm today to start the counting of the ballots of the candidates for the administrative elections in the 31 municipalities of Caserta and meet the new mayors. In the meantime there is already one who is celebrating: it is Salvatore Geremia, confirmed as leader of Rocchetta e Croce without even waiting for the vote given that his rivals are all military men with fake lists, while his only real opponent he was excluded for not respecting the pink quotas.
However, as regards the three municipalities with more than 15 thousand inhabitants called to vote – Aversa, Casal di Principe and Castel Volturno – a possible run-off between the two mayors with the most votes is expected on Sunday 23 June, from 7am to 11pm, and Monday 24 June, from 7am to 3pm: counting will begin when the polls close. The province of Caserta responded to the call to the polls as it did 5 years ago. In 2019, 71.74% was reached when the polls closed and yesterday evening at 11pm the percentage stood at 71.47. Santa Maria la Fossa was almost full, exceeding 85 percent. Francolise, Gricignano d’Aversa, Carinaro, Pietravairano, Teverola also go above 80%. Flop in Valle Agricola, in the small municipality of Matesino only 36.48% of those entitled decided to express their preference.
Aversa and Casal di Principe are on par with the provincial average, while in Castel Volturno abstentionism triumphs: only 54.91% of citizens went to vote. The turnout did not disappoint, as it seemed at 12pm yesterday when 39.35% turned out compared to 25.07% on Saturday at 11pm. The peak was recorded at 7pm when there was a surge of voters and in Terra di Lavoro it reached 59.72%, above the Campania average which stands at just over 55 percent.
Very good Casapesenna where 70% was reached, 5 points more than Casal di Principe, while Aversa remained below the Caserta average, stopping at 57.69%. Bad Castel Volturno with just 45.54%. The municipalities that saw the most voters at the polls by 7 pm were once again Santa Maria la Fossa (78.28) and Francolise (72.50). Valle Agricola remains at the bottom (32.67).
Yesterday did not pass without problems. Chaos in Casapesenna, however, on Saturday due to an alleged already filled out ballot brought to the section by a voter. But the carabinieri ascertained that there was no dancer card.
Security measures have been strengthened in Casal di Principe following the shots fired on the eve of the elections in Piazza Mercato and in Via Bologna, against the house of Francesco Schiavone Sandokan, where his two sons Emanuele Libero and Ivanhoe currently live, but no critical issues were recorded, just as no problems were reported in the voting operations in Aversa, Casal di Principe, Castel Volturno, Capodrise, Gricignano di Aversa, Macerata Campania, Teverola, Carinaro, Casapesenna, Casapulla, Curti, Francolise, Gioia Sannitica, Rocca d’Evandro, Ailano, Caianello, Castel di Sasso, Ciorlano, Conca della Campania, Fontegreca, Formicola, Marzano Appio Piana di Monte Verna, Pietravairano, Prata Sannita, Pratella, Roccaromana, Rocchetta e Croce, Santa Maria la Fossa, Tora e Piccilli and Valle Agricola.
