Historic feat for Carrarese: returning from a 0-0 draw in the first leg at Menti, they beat Vicenza 1-0 at the Stadio dei Marmi in the return match of the Serie C playoff final and achieved promotion to Serie B after 76 years of absence. A goal that the marble workers had dreamed of since 1948, when, after just 2 years in the second division, the yellow and blues were relegated to Serie C. The goal scored after just 6′ by Finotto was enough to achieve the coveted goal.
A deserved victory
On the field the Tuscan team deserved it. After the 0-0, with regrets, in Vicenza, in front of their own fans, Antonio Calabro’s boys immediately found the advantage by defending with order and coming close to doubling their lead on a couple of occasions. Vicenza, without Ronaldo (injured his knee in the first leg), tried to recover the result but Carrarese’s defense was impeccable.
City in celebration, all colored in yellow and blue
At the final whistle many people took to the streets to celebrate with flags and scarves. Yellow and blue balloons had already hung in many windows and terraces both in the area around the stadium and in the city before the match. On the pitch, however, the players, intoxicated with joy, wore a special shirt with the writing: “You must never stop dreaming”.
