Bad weather warning in Northern Italy. There is an orange alert in part of Lombardy due to the risk of strong thunderstorms from today afternoon, Sunday 9 June, until midnight tomorrow, 10 June. And yellow alert for hydrogeological risk from 2pm today until tomorrow. The Civil Protection has made it known that a disturbance of Atlantic origin is rapidly moving from the Iberian peninsula towards the north of our country, leading to an increase in instability also between today’s evening and tomorrow’s day, with mainly rainfall thunderstorm character, locally also of strong intensity, especially in Lombardy and Triveneto.
Warnings for the risk of strong thunderstorms
Based on the available forecasts, the civil protection department in agreement with the regions involved has issued a new warning of adverse weather conditions which complements yesterday’s. According to reports, weather phenomena could cause hydrogeological and hydraulic criticalities. Specifically, the warning predicts scattered to widespread precipitation from today’s afternoon, predominantly showers or thunderstorms, over Veneto and the Autonomous Provinces of Trento and Bolzano, in addition to the persistence of these phenomena in Lombardy. The events will be accompanied by heavy showers, frequent lightning strikes, local hailstorms and strong gusts of wind. On the basis of the expected and ongoing phenomena, an orange alert has also been assessed for tomorrow, Monday 10 June, due to the risk of thunderstorms in part of Lombardy, and a yellow alert in Trentino-Alto Adige and Veneto, but also in part of Lombardy and Tuscany.
The Milan crisis unit reunited: precautions
Following the issuing of the orange alert for Lombardy, the UCL, the local crisis unit of the Municipality of Milan, with the Civil Protection Authority and the departments concerned met to examine the situation and coordinate the actions to be taken . “Storm phenomena could intensify, with heavy rain and wind, especially in the evening. Citizens are invited not to stop in parks and gardens, and in any case under trees and in their vicinity, as well as near construction sites, dehors and tents”, reported the Municipality of Milan, in a note. “It is also important not to stop in the areas at risk of flooding in Seveso and Lambro and near the underpasses, and to ensure the safety of objects and vases on the
balconies and all the artefacts that could be moved by the weather”. Finally, the Municipality invites you to pay maximum attention to any communications that may be released in the next few hours by the Civil Protection.
