Fatal accident on the A18, towards Catania Messina, on the deceleration lane of the Acireale junction. Two vehicles, a Skoda Octavia and a Hunday Kona, were involved in the collision.
Following the collision, the driver of the Skoda Octavia, Salvatore Papa, aged 46, resident in Acireale, died on the spot.
In order to allow rescue and survey operations, the motorway junction remained closed until 07.00 this morning.
The staff of the Subsection of the Giardini Naxos traffic police attended, together with Commander Giovanni Spadaro. personnel of the Acireale fire brigade, 118 and the motorway consortium. Investigations are underway to establish the dynamics of the facts.
Weekend of road tragedies
a road accident also occurred in Palermo last night between via Lanza di Scalea and via Rosario Nicoletti. A car with two young people on board overturned. The two young people were taken to hospital even before help arrived.

The tragedy in Modica-Ragusa
Last night in a road accident on the Costanzo bridge, which connects Ragusa to Modica, two Ragusan spouses, Giovanni Cascone and Angela Polizzi, aged 56 and 53, died in a collision between their motorbike and a car. The two were traveling on a CF 700 motorbike headed for Ragusa when they collided with a Renault Clio driven by a 28-year-old girl coming in the opposite direction.
A young wound
The young driver of the car was injured, suffering some fractures. She was transported to the Giovanni Paolo II Hospital in Ragusa where she was hospitalized. Her life is not in danger.
