Padel stands in solidarity with the Appiano Gentile Lions. After screening for amblyopia prevention, the club led by Francesco Gallo has a new social initiative in store.
Lions increasingly supportive
“It will be held on June 23rd at “La Pinetina” – explains Gallo – The person responsible for the service is the member Mario D’Amico. This year the proceeds from the tournament will be donated entirely to Caritas of Appiano Gentile which will help families in difficulty with the payment of their Enel bills which, as we know, have increased significantly. I feel like saying: a padel tournament to rekindle hope”. In short, a constant commitment which, as we said, saw the members also committed to prevention.
Screening for amblyopia
In collaboration with the municipal administrations of Appiano Gentile, Bulgarograsso, Oltrona di San Mamette and Veniano, on Friday 17th and Saturday 18th May, it promoted an amblyopia prevention program within a project called “Sight For Kids” . To recognize and treat problems as early as possible, it is extremely important to visit children when they are still very young. “The screening was proposed for the age group between 24 and 36 months – the club explains – 37 visits were carried out in the council chamber of the Municipality of Appiano Gentile”. 23 green codes identified (with parameters found to be within the norm for the age), 13 yellow codes (recommended in-depth examination because some slight problem is present) and one red code (the parameters detected were abnormal results, specialist check-up recommended by the ophthalmologist for suspected amblyopia).”Technology today allows children to be examined even when they are just a few months old, already at that age correcting many visual defects with the simple use of glasses, so that the disability does not produce effects that the person will carry with them throughout their entire life his growth and which will inevitably end up negatively influencing his future social integration – continue from the club – Heartfelt thanks for the precious collaboration and the welcome visit of the administrators Maurizia Gini And Graziano Terzaghi (deputy mayor and mayor of Veniano), Pierino Clerici (deputy mayor of Bulgarograsso), Graziella Pepe (deputy mayor of Oltrona di San Mamette) e Fabrizio Rusconi (mayor of Appiano Gentile)”.
Lots of appointments
Finally, on June 12th, an important and fundamental event for the life of the “Lions Club Appiano Gentile”. “There will be the delivery of the charter by the Lions International Club – concludes Gallo – it will take place from the hands of the Governor of District 108 Ib1 Alberto Frigerio. It is an important moment that we will experience together with many other Lions in our area, the participation of members of the clubs of Olgiate Comasco, Cernobbio and, obviously, of the “Lions Club Bellagio-Bellaxio”. Many club presidents and important officers of District 108 Ib1 will also participate. The event will take place in the “Virginia Country Restaurant”.
