PADUA – The abogado Giorgio Ronzani (lawyer graduated and licensed in Spain) ended up in trouble again. The Gup Claudio Marassi, as requested by the public prosecutor Benedetto Roberti, sent him to trial on November 12th together with three other Italians and around seventy foreigners. The most serious charge is criminal conspiracy aimed at aiding and abetting theclandestine immigrationfollowed by material and ideological falsehood.

However, the position of Mirko Borini, resident in Fiesso Umbertiano, was eliminated and was sentenced to 2 years and 6 months in an abbreviated sentence. The other Italians who will face trial are Gianluca Coccia and Pier Paolo Cavestro from Porto Viro, and Michele Novello from Monselice. All the other foreign defendants, mostly Nigerians, but also some Chinese, domiciled in Padua, Rovigo, Venice, Vicenza, Treviso, Ferrara, Parma, Ravenna and Rimini, were accused in various capacities of ideological and material forgery.

The investigation

It was November 6, 2020 when the Immigration Office of the Padua police headquarters communicated to the Flying Squad that during checks on residence permits there were doubts about the position of some Nigerians who worked in Quarto d’Altino (Venice) and Adria. From twelve positions, 77 fake hires were discovered. On the occasion of the first inspection visits carried out in collaboration with the territorial labor inspectorates of Venice, Rovigo and Ferrara at the identified companies (having headquarters and local units in the localities of Adria, Porto Tolle, Lendinara, and Fiesso Umbertiano, Quarto D’Altino and Codigoro), the total absence of premises and employees was found. None of the declared activities (wholesale trade of fresh, frozen and deep-frozen meat, aquaculture in sea, brackish or lagoon water, treatment and coating of metals and wholesale trade of building materials) was found to be actually carried out.
