The plaque commemorates the Nazi retaliation against defenseless citizens. In that place, on 8 June 1944, three people were murdered. Two were men, citizens of Viterbo: Giacomo Pollastrelli and Oreste Telli. The third was a woman, “a woman – says the tombstone – who remained unknown”. No one ever knew who she was, only her tragic epilogue is certain, similar to that of thousands of women who remained unknown.

Auser Viterbo has always been committed to transmitting memory and defending the values of tolerance, respect for diversity, solidarity for the weak, attention towards the most fragile and every year since 2015 it commemorates that sad event.

After a brief introduction by the president, Senator Pollastrelli, an eyewitness to the tragic events of 1944 in Viterbo, took the floor. Dana Koutos, the student of the Oriuoli institute, winner of the first prize of the annual Auser competition “The woman remained unknown” expressed words of thanks. Daniele Colonna brought a message from Anpi.
