On the afternoon of 7 June, the carabinieri of the Radiomobile Section of the Arezzo Company, in a joint intervention carried out with colleagues from the local Flying Squad of the State Police, arrested, in the act of committing a crime, a 45-year-old Italian who was caught while leaving the place of the crime. The man, without a fixed address, after breaking into an apartment, had taken possession of forty euros and some foreign collector’s notes which he tried, in vain, to get rid of when he was intercepted by the military.
The alarm was triggered around 2.40pm when the owner of the house, being abroad, had received an alarm signal from his video surveillance system which immortalized the thief’s exploits. The information received by the single national emergency number “112” was immediately conveyed to the patrols in the area who quickly converged on the place indicated by the victim, managing to surprise the perpetrator of the theft still with the stolen goods in tow.
The investigations carried out by the military made it possible to establish that the arrested person, in the past already a customer of a B&B managed by the same victim, had fraudulently managed to gain possession of the keys to the apartment where he had then committed the theft, taking advantage of the absence of the holder.
The arrested person, at the disposal of the AG, appeared yesterday before the Ordinary Court of Arezzo for the validation hearing.
This refers to respecting the rights of the persons under investigation, who are to be considered presumed innocent in consideration of the current phase of the proceedings – preliminary investigations – until a definitive finding of guilt with an irrevocable sentence, and in order to ensure the constitutionally guaranteed right to freedom of the press.
