possible intense phenomena

In Europe, starting from Sunday 9 June, a period of high atmospheric instability is expected, with a significant risk of intense phenomena along a contrast zone between air masses with very different characteristics. This band of instability extends from southern Spain to Ukraine, crossing several nations including Switzerland, southern Germany, Austria, northern Italy, the Czech Republic, southern Poland, Slovakia, Hungary and Slovenia. These areas will be particularly exposed to strong thunderstorms, intense hail and violent gusts of wind. An appetizer already occurred in Austria on Saturday evening.

The situation is determined by the contrast between air masses with different characteristics, the warm air of subtropical origin and the colder air of polar nature. This clash between air masses of very different temperatures and humidity creates the ideal conditions for the development of very intense meteorological phenomena. In particular, the thermal and kinetic energy involved is very high, significantly increasing the probability of such events occurring. The air mass arriving from subtropical latitudes also contains a lot of vapor and this means a lot of energy that can be consumed by thunderstorms.
