From clan weapons to tax fraud

«In the province of Asti there is the presence of ‘Ndrangheta associations attributable to the aforementioned club in lower Piedmont and to the club in Asti».

There is a paragraph, in the half-yearly report of the Anti-Mafia Investigation Directorate, dedicated to the Asti area, to the clan infiltrations and to the investigations by the police in the last year.

The main reference is reserved for the operation «Cagliostro» developed by the Carabinieri on 20 April 2023: 35 people investigated and active in “an ‘Ndrangheta structure attributable to the Alvaro gang”.

During searches in the house of one of the suspects, in the municipality of Frinco, Francesco Belfiore, a prominent surname, weapons and ammunition were found.

But it’s not just the infiltrations of the ‘Ndrangheta. “As regards associations of other origins – notes the Dia – it should be noted that on 9 February 2023 the Guardia di Finanza, as part of the “Fast Cash” operationexecuted an order dthe precautionary custody of 8 members of a criminal association of the Roma ethnic group held responsible for usury”.

The report also traces one of the most sensationalose investigative successes, again developed by Finance, on 23 March 2023, with the execution of a precautionary custody order against 10 peopleincluding an accountant from Naples, «held responsible for criminal conspiracy, fraud, money laundering, issuing and using invoices for non-existent transactions and fraudulent evasion of tax payments”. The investigation into building bonusescrowned with the seizure “of tax credits, properties and other assets for 1.5 billion”.
