TRENT. Something is finally moving and the path taken seems to be the right one. Also because there is no more time and we need to hurry.

A few weeks ago Alberto Pedrotti, community welfare councilor of the municipality of Trento, had told The Dolomites how relations with the Province were tense. Indeed, very tense, to the point that an official warning was already ready in Via Belenzani which would leave in a few hours towards Piazza Dante.

The object of the dispute was (or rather is) the reception and accommodation of migrant families with minorswhose jurisdiction is provincial in nature but which, in recent years, has been carried out entirely by the municipality of Trento, which has had to manage the issue and, above all, shoulder the entire costs.

“Ten days ago – says councilor Pedrotti – I met councilor Tonina, with whom we established a frank dialogue, as it should be, with the Province which is available and ready to do its part. The councilor has given a mandate to the provincial structure to work with the municipal one and a meeting has already been held to define priorities. Our objective, as I have said and reiterated, has never been to “offload” the responsibility to the Province (which would have total competence, ed.), but to find an effective and lasting form of collaboration with it. The topic is very important and, therefore, no one is holding back, but it was necessary to discuss and implement a sort of “restart” to work together profitably”.

At the moment there are 15 families supported by the municipality, for a total of around 50 people. The average number of families hosted is 33 per year. One of the nuclei – said councilor Pedrotti – has been housed (at municipal expense) since March 2022, because it cannot “get back” into the provincial routes. The extended timeframes inevitably represented an enormous cost for the coffers of via Belenzani, whose Solidarity Fund was exhausted.

After many unsuccessful letters, the hoped-for meeting finally took place. Now the “ball” passes to the two structures, which have already begun to coordinate to resolve an issue that must be addressed immediately.
