Enna, wall and concrete staircase in the Castle of Lombardy: it is controversy

A reinforced concrete wall and a large staircase, also in concrete, leaning against the surrounding wall of the Lombardy castle. The redevelopment works on the castle with materials that clash with those of the monumental structure are causing discussion. According to the president of the Ancient Sicily section of Enna, the archaeologist Sandro Amata, «from the information in our possession the idea is to create inside the second courtyard of the castle a theater under the stars so dear to local politicians, and a tower at least 6 meters; something that would completely distort the area by cementing the castle”.

Sicilia Antica announces that it will request access to the documents of the Superintendence to have an understanding of the project. «There are walls that are at risk of collapsing, not to mention the Pisan tower, which is also in poor condition – says Amata – There is a deterioration of the property that is truly scary and it is this aspect that needed to be taken care of, rather than ruined staircases reinforced concrete. Instead, interventions were chosen that have nothing to do with safeguarding our fortress. In short, we have taken the path of entertainment, perhaps weddings, rather than the recovery of the Castle of Lombardy.”
