Taranto, kite flying with the MAP Festival

After the concert by Paolo Fresu and Omar Sosa at Villa Pantaleo and the meeting with Alessandro Baricco in the Cimino Pineta, the MAP Festival continues with “The MAP Kites”, scheduled for Sunday 9 June, from 9.00 to 12.00 on the beach of Viale del Tramonto di San Vito in Taranto. The Kite Festival for children is an event created in collaboration with the TarantoKite Association. Free participation.

The concerts within the MAP continue on Monday 10 June at 9.00 pm, with the Vision String Quartet, who will perform in the Spectrum project. The popular string quartet formed in Berlin will flood the courtyard of the Aragonese Castle with sounds with a style from classical to folk, from rock to minimalist funk. An extraordinary event created in collaboration with the Navy. Free entry upon reservation.

The MAP Festival, with the artistic direction of Gloria Campaner and Piero Romano, and scheduled from last June 5th until Friday 14th, is organized by the Orchestra of Magna Grecia, the Ministry of Culture, the Puglia Region and the Municipality of Taranto . Sponsored by the Order of Architects of Taranto and the Archdiocese, the MAP was also created thanks to the support of Banca BCC di San Marzano di San Giuseppe, Teleperformance, Varvaglione Vini, Ninfole Caffè, Programma Sviluppo, Baux Cucine, Five Motors.

Founded in 2012, the Vision String Quartet, which will perform in the Piazza d’Armi of the Aragonese Castle on Monday 10 June at 9pm (entry from 8.30pm), has established itself as one of the finest string quartets of its generation. The four musicians also see themselves as a band, they love to experiment with new concert formats, making use of the collaboration of very high profile lighting technicians and sound designers. The ensemble has received numerous awards, such as the Concours de Genève 2016, the renowned Jürgen Ponto Foundation and the Würth Foundation of Jeunesses Musicales Germany. “Artists in residence” at the Beethovenfest Bonn, they participated in the Bodensee Festival.

Full of commitments, last year the ensemble toured Japan and Korea, South America, Mexico and Australia, where they received applause with a repertoire which included Barber’s Adagio for strings, the String Quartet no. 8 in C minor op.110 by D. Shostakovich and the String Quartet in G major.

The Vision String Quartet collaborates with artists from other musical areas and thus broadens and enriches the versatility of the “string quartet” format.
