The municipal councilor PD Matteo Capriolo harshly criticized the Government for the recent cuts in current spending which will also affect the Municipality of Varese. In a statement, Capriolo explained the impact of these cuts and their consequences for citizens and municipal services.
«This Government is once again putting its hands in the pockets of Italians. It does so with 600 thousand euros of cuts to the current expenditure of our Municipality, included in the latest decree, which will be applied more to the virtuous local authorities that have obtained greater funding from the PNRR – declared Capriolo – It is, therefore, about everyone those Municipalities that have distinguished themselves for having brought a greater number of European resources to their territory to create schools, canteens, spaces for young people, purchase electric buses, improve the energy efficiency of buildings, build sports facilities and all those works to promote growth the cities”.
His words highlight two serious problems caused by government cuts. «The first is that the Government is once again putting its hands in citizens’ pockets. Because the current expenditure of the Municipalities means services, educators in kindergartens, it means being able to maintain low tariffs such as those of canteens for example. All expenses that municipalities face with great difficulty, particularly after the last difficult post-pandemic years.”
The second issue, defined by Capriolo as paradoxical, concerns the penalization of the most virtuous municipalities. «The second serious, and also paradoxical, news is that the Government intends to punish – because this method really seems like a punishment – all those virtuous Municipalities that have managed to obtain greater resources from the PNRR. In short, a terrible management by this Government which increases everything, cuts resources to local authorities intended for services for families and citizens, and punishes the most virtuous Municipalities”.
