Important news for the citizens of Rho – Pero and for the commuters who take the train to Milan every day.

The agreement for the new Milan Mind-Merlata stop has been signed

RFI (FS group) has signed the implementation agreement for the Milan Mind railway stop with the Municipality of Milan and the Lombardy Region. This can be read in a note which indicates that the new stop will be built on the section of the Milan-Varese line between Rho Fiera and Milano Certosa and will constitute “a new model of metropolitan mobility”. According to estimates, Milano Mind will allow 45 thousand people to reach both the new Mind (Milan Innovation District) and the Cascina Merlata neighborhood every day.

It will allow you to reach the Galeazzi hospital and the new state university

The new stop will be built in an area which currently has 10 thousand visitors a day and concentrates various activities, including the new Galeazzi hospital, with around 600 beds, the new scientific campus of the State University of Milan, which starting from 2027 will host over 23 thousand people including students, teachers and researchers, and the Human Technopole research center. The expected traffic for Milano Mind is 12.6 million users per year.

The overall cost of the works is 33.5 million euros

“The creation of this stop is very important for us”, says the CEO of RFI Gianpiero Strisciuglio, according to which “Milano Mind will be an example of a station that will have functions and services designed for an urban context in full transformation, very different from the current one”. The overall cost of the works is 33.5 million euros, of which 10 million paid by the Municipality of Milan and 23.5 million financed through the ‘Investment Program Contract’ between the MIT and RFI relating to the City Hubs and the metropolitan lines.

The creation of areas dedicated to taxis and parking is also planned

The new stop is part of the complex railway system of the Milan hub and is part of RFI’s commitments for the infrastructural upgrading of the Milanese stations: Greco Pirelli, Romolo, San Cristoforo, Porta Romana, Villapizzone, the new Tibaldi-Bocconi stop recently activated, which is accompanied by a plan for the redevelopment and completion of the accessibility of all the other stations. Further functional works are also planned, such as dedicated areas for taxis and car parks.
