Livorno From today (Saturday 8 June) there is something new at the Tre Ponti: lifeguards will be working for the first time with the new towers. Recruited after the closing of the tender published by the Municipality, the lifeguards are employed by the company that won it: the Sienese Virtus Buonconvento. Having previously managed Camalich, Virtus is the current manager of the Cecina swimming pool and of the lifeguard service on the municipality’s free beaches. And its lifeguards will remain at Tre Ponti until September.
The announcement
It all begins, in fact, when the Municipality of Livorno decides to equip the Tre Ponti beach with a lifeguard service. Therefore publish the relevant notice for the assignment. «This is a 300 thousand euro tender lasting three years – they explained at the time from Palazzo Civico -. Which provides two positions for both 2024 and 2025. A contractual increase is then planned for the third lifeguard (new position starting from the third year, ed) if the work of the Tuscany Region for the construction of the new single-span bridge which will replace the old one with five arches is finished”.
The times
The Tre Ponti rescue service starts (delayed compared to the initially hypothesized timetable) starting today, 8 June. The lifeguards, specifically, will be at work on Saturday and Sunday from 9am to 7pm. Then, from 15 June to 15th September, the towers will be active every day, always from 9am to 7pm. Finally, from 16th to 30th September, the lifeguards will work Saturday, Sunday and holidays, always from 9am to 7pm. In 2025 and 2026 the service will be organized in almost the same way except starting on May 1st.
The stations
The lifeguards will clearly monitor the beach and intervene if dangerous situations arise. That is, they will guarantee bathing safety by sitting on the special turrets, positioned one to the south and one to the north of the beach. Each location will have a seat with umbrella and additional equipment such as binoculars, float, skate, flags and jacket are also provided.
Attention to disabled people
Furthermore, whoever was awarded the management of the towers will also guarantee adequate assistance to disabled people, considering that the area is equipped with a special slide, providing – as the Municipality says – a walkway on the beach. «In the next 15 days – the Municipality states – the showers will come into service, including those for disabled people, and dedicated access». In short, at Tre Ponti, everything is ready for the summer. Meanwhile, behind the beach, work is progressing which will lead to the opening of the new temporary bridge so as to be able, in due course, to rebuild the bridge by eliminating the multiple arch. This operation is part of the work plan for the hydraulic safety of the city.
