The electoral challenge starts today in Cesena. Four mayoral candidates and 14 lists

The electoral challenge begins today. There are four candidates in Cesena competing for the mayor’s seat in today’s and tomorrow’s elections. This is Enzo Lattuca, the outgoing mayor who leads the center-left coalition that includes Pd, Cesena 2024, Patto per Cesena, Civica Popolare, Fondamenta, Avs and M5s. On the other side of the barricade, Marco Casali, who with the center-right is trying to take over the city, as happened in nearby Forlì the last time. In this case the mayoral candidate is supported by Fratelli d’Italia, Lega, Forza Italia, Insieme. Marco Giangrandi, third in the running, is leading a coalition that includes Cambiamo, Italia Viva and the Cesena Siamo Noi civic list. Finally Paolo Sensini, who is running with ‘For Peace and the Common Good, Cesena alive and united’, a list born in the wake of the No Fear Days born during the pandemic in Cesena. What is new in this electoral round is that Cesena is now officially the capital (after the decree of 29 January), which means a higher number of elected councilors: it will go from the current 24 to 32 seats in the city council.

In the previous elections of 2019, mayor Enzo Lattuca was elected in the run-off with 55.7% of the votes (24,224 votes) against Andrea Rossi (centre-right with 44.3% equal to 19,233 votes. In the first round Lattuca had obtained 42 .8% (equal to 23,111 votes) supported by Pd (32%), Cesena 2024 (4.8%), Left (2.3%), Pri (2.3%), Popular for Cesena (1.9 %) Rossi had obtained 33.8% (18,244 votes) supported by Lega (19.5%), Cambiamo (8.4%), Forza Italia (2.9%), Fratelli d’Italia (1.6%). %), Popolo della Famiglia (1.2%) The other candidates: Vittorio Valletta of Cesena Noi (9.5%, 5,132 votes); Cesena in the Municipality (3.1%, 1,687 votes); Luca Capacci of Fondamenta (1.2%, 622 votes); Antonio Barzanti of Casapound (0.9%, 464 votes).

Those who go to vote will have several choices. The first option is to cross out only the name of one of the mayoral candidates. By marking the symbol of a list, the favor expressed will go in support of the latter and automatically of the mayoral candidate. Finally, the hypothesis of split voting is envisaged, which involves voting for a mayoral candidate and at the same time for a list belonging to another party.

Voting is also held in the European elections, whereby it is possible to express from one to three preference votes for candidates included in the voted list. Pay attention to gender voting: it is forbidden to choose candidates of the same sex. In the case of multiple preferences expressed, these must concern candidates of different sexes, under penalty of cancellation of the second and third preferences.
