Elections. In Forlì 91,342 voters at the polls for the mayor and for Europe. For the Municipality, a poker of candidates: Zattini, Rinaldini, Botticella and Acqua

On Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 June Forlì votes in the European elections and to elect the mayor and the 32-member city council. With its 117 thousand inhabitants Forlì is the most important municipality in Romagna called to the administrative vote. The polls are open on Saturday 8 June from 3pm to 11pm and Sunday 9 June from 7am to 11pm. The counting is scheduled for 2pm the following day.

For the European elections there are a total of 89,637 voters, of which 42,995 are male and 46,642 are female. The total number of those entitled to vote for the local elections is 91,342, of which 43,878 males and 47,464 females.
The difference is due to the inclusion of AIRE citizens resident in European Union countries who vote at consulates in EU countries for the European elections, while for the administrative elections they have to go to the polling stations in Forlì.

We remind you that for the European Parliament elections we vote with the proportional system but with a threshold of 4%. While for the administrative elections in the municipalities there is a double system. In municipalities with over 15,000 inhabitants – and therefore also in Forlì – voting is done with the double-round majority system: if in the first round no candidate obtains 50% plus one of the votes (i.e. the absolute majority) voting returns two weeks later for the run-off between the two candidates best placed in the first round. This is exactly what happened in the last administrative session.

The possible run-off round for the direct election of the mayor of the Municipality of Forlì will take place on Sunday 23 June from 7.00 to 23.00 and on Monday 24 June from 7.00 to 15.00.

HOW TO VOTE

European elections. Each voter can vote for only one list by placing a mark on the mark of the chosen list or in the rectangle containing this mark. Each voter can express up to a maximum of three preference votes for candidates on a list. In the case of multiple preferences expressed, these must concern candidates of different sex, under penalty of cancellation of the second and third preferences. The preferential vote can be expressed for candidates included in the voted list. The preference vote is expressed by writing the name and surname or only the surname of the preferred candidates included in the same list.

Administrative elections. There are three voting possibilities. 1) you can only draw a mark on the symbol of a list, thus assigning your preference to the marked list and to the mayoral candidate supported by the latter 2) you can draw a mark on the symbol of a list, simultaneously drawing a mark on the name of a mayoral candidate not connected to the voted list: by doing so you obtain the so-called ‘disjoint vote’ 3) you can draw a mark only on the name of the mayoral candidate, thus voting only for the mayoral candidate and not for the list or lists linked to the latter. Each voter can express one or two preference votes for municipal councillors, for no more than two candidates included in the list he voted for. If two preferences are expressed, they must concern candidates of different sexes from the same list, under penalty of cancellation of the second preference. The candidate who obtains the absolute majority of valid votes (at least 50% plus one) is elected mayor in the first round. If no candidate reaches this threshold, voting will return on 23 and 24 June to choose between the two candidates who obtained the highest number of votes in the first round (runoff). In the second round, the candidate who obtains the highest number of votes is elected mayor.

FIVE YEARS AGO

In 2019, the current mayor Gian Luca Zattini (centre-right coalition) won the ballot by just over 3,000 votes. Zattini obtained 27,207 votes and 53.1% of the votes. His centre-left challenger Giorgio Calderoni recovered something compared to the 1st round but stopped at 46.9% with 24,056 votes.

In the first round, 5 aspiring mayors showed up with 13 lists. Gian Luca Zattini supported by Lega, Forlì Cambia civic list, Forza Italia, Fratelli d’Italia and Il Popolo della Famiglia obtained 45.8%. Giorgio Calderoni supported by PD, and four civic lists Fiducia Collaborazione Comunità, Forlì solidale e verde, Forlì bene comune and Forlìlife had 37.2%. Marco Ravaioli with Forlì Sicura it stopped at 3.2% while Veronica San Vicente Capanaga at 3.0% with the L’Alternativa per Forlì list.

The individual lists had this result: in first place the PD with 27.5% of the votes, followed by the League with 24.2%, the M5S with 10.8% and the civic list of Zattini Forlì Cambia with 10 ,6%. All the others away. Today’s leading Italian party, Fratelli d’Italia obtained only 3.0%. This gives an idea of how much the country’s political orientation has changed in these 5 years.
