2024 municipal elections in the province of Brescia, the municipalities and the mayoral candidates

Brescia, 8 June 2024 – They will be approximately one million Brescians who on 8 and 9 June called to the polls for European – open to all those entitled to vote – and for the administrative ones, that are of interest to this round the mayors of 144 municipalities out of a total of 205, who instead can be chosen by around 560 thousand voters, from the lower valley to Valcamonica passing through Garda.

They will compete in everything 301 aspiring mayoral candidates, of which 228 are men and 74 women, supported by 324 lists and 3,784 councillors. In approximately half of the cases, the candidates are outgoing first citizens who propose themselves again (73 out of 144). In towns with less than 5 thousand inhabitants there is no longer a mandate limit for the mayor, while in municipalities with a population between 5,001 and 15 thousand inhabitants the re-election limit rises to the third consecutive mandate.

In 31 municipalities those who vote will find the name of on the ballot only one candidate: in that case the challenge will be played entirely on turnout, since the elections will only be valid if participated by more than 50 percent of those entitled to vote.

Four out of five municipalities with more than 15 thousand inhabitants – where in theory a run-off will be possible – are governed by outgoing mayors (in the League share) who are running again. I am Chiari, Concesio, Ghedi, Lumezzane and Montichiari.

Alone Clear it was governed by a centre-left composite majority: here the scenario is more lively, there will be five contenders. That is to say Domenico Codoni (with the civic Chiari virtuoso and Chiari capital), Roberto Goffi (with the civic we are Chiari)Alessandro Gozzini (with the Chiari street in the centre), Marco Salogni (Civic Committee and Pact for Chiari) and Gabriele Zotti (with the centre-right coalition formed by Civica, FdI, Lega and Chiari tricolore).

Concesio – which recently joined the ‘big’ group, with more than 15 thousand inhabitants – will see the head-to-head between Agostino Damiolini, at the head of the Insieme per Concesio list (Lega, Fratelli d’Italia and Forza Italia) and is also supported by the civic mayor Damiolini, and Emiliano Gallina, at the head of the Partecipare list for Concesio.

Ghedi, with Federico Casali running against Anna Giulia Guarneri. Casali is supported by four lists, the same as in 2019: Lega (his party), Fratelli d’Italia, Forza Italia and Ghedi Tricolore. Anna Giulia Guarneri, on the other hand, is supported by three lists: Pd, Ghedi Bene Comune and the civic mayor Anna Guarneri-We with you to change.

Lumezzane, Where Joseph Facchini, supported by the centre-right parties, FdI-Lega-FI, and by two civic groups Insieme per Lumezzane and the civic group Giovani-Noi per il Tomorrow, will challenge Valeriano Gobbi, with two civics and one party: Lumezzane Vale and Civica per Valeriano Gobbi and the Democratic Party respectively.

Montichiari, driven by Marco Togni against Beatrice Morandi. With Togni there are Lega, Forza Italia and Fratelli d’Italia. The Togni alliance also has a civic list (Togni mayor. Let’s continue!). Morandi is an outgoing opposition councilor (who, in the last phase of the council, decided to leave the Democratic Party group and form the mixed group on its own), as well as a former councilor for public works in Mario Fraccaro’s council. Montichiari dinAmica is the civic list of the coalition. Then, Italia Viva Montichiari and the civic group. The coalition includes the Pd list (which also includes a representation of the Monteclarense Left) and the list of the Fraccaro Civic Committee. Furthermore, with her there is also the list of Guglielmo Tenca’s centre-right Montichiari civic movement.
