Clash between mayoral candidates over Carnival expenses – Teramo

GIULIANOVA. Serious accusations flew during the open-air meeting organized at Villa Pozzoni with the four candidates for mayor. On Tuesday evening, in the square of the populous hamlet, a heated pre-election debate was held organized by the neighborhood association and moderated by the journalist Walter De Berardinis. The outdoor debate had a very high tone, also fueled by the strong reactions of the public present. During the meeting tensions came to a head with heavy accusations and verbal clashes between the candidates, or rather: between the outgoing mayor Jwan Costantini on one side and his three challengers on the other.
Daniele Panichiartistic director of the “Gran Carnivale Giuliese”, ended up in the crosshairs of the outgoing mayor’s opponents: both Daniele Di Massimantonio That Alberta Ortolani they made fierce criticism of the compensation paid by the Municipality to Panichi, and finally Romolo Lanciotti he increased the dose. «The Carnival was an experience of fundamental popular participation», said Di Massimantonio, «the administration encouraged it, with a compensation for the six neighborhoods of around 20,000 euros, while the majority of the compensations, almost 100,000 euros , they went to the artistic director: all this is absurd, this policy sucks.” The candidate Ortolani intervened to support Di Massimantonio’s statements: «We also went to look at the expenses and that’s not good. We don’t know by what criteria these artistic directions are assigned.” For Lanciotti, the credit for the success of the Carnival should be attributed exclusively to the neighbourhoods, who supported various expenses, while «the artistic directors, who have nothing artistic, get 100,000 euros», with an allusion to Panichi. Costantini did not reply on the Carnival expenses but became very upset, essentially saying: “You are always three against one, all you do is discredit the administration and my work without ever talking about your plans.”
The councilor intervened in defense of Panichi, accused by the three challengers Paolo Giorgini with some clarifications: «A notice has been published in which companies that organize events can participate by presenting a qualified project: specifically the revenues for the successful company, which will support all the organizational and technical costs of the project, amount to 64,423 euros while the outgoings are approximately 68,000 euros. Some might say that society loses out. But the skill of those who organize the Carnival”, concludes Giorgini, “lies in finding sponsorships for the event, thus covering expenses and generating a profit. I thank Daniele Panichi for the commitment and passion he puts into it, bringing the event to the forefront of national news.”
