It’s done. Mimmo Toscano is the new coach of Catania. The official announcement from Ross Pelligra’s company has also arrived. Who also called for 3.30 pm the press conference to present the “Cannibal” who has long been courted and pursued in recent weeks. The Rossazzurri managers, after sporting director Faggiano’s announcement, had focused all their attention on the change of coach and the only name followed continuously was that of the professional from Rende.
Yesterday before 1pm Toscano rushed into the office at Massimino, escorted by his agent. A quick greeting to the colleagues from the House of C, Gianluca Di Marzio’s site and then the summit began with the vice president Vincenzo Grella. Toscano arrived, as expected, in Catania on the strength of an agreement now signed with Cesena which will pay him and his staff severance pay after winning the championship with Juventus. Apparently the last document was missing yesterday, and it will arrive this morning, following the announcement. Even if yesterday in Cesena it was a hectic day because the designated coach, D’Aversa, did an about-face and reached an agreement with Empoli. In any case, Toscano was now free to sign with Catania and so he did.
Yesterday’s summit
Yesterday’s summit, at the headquarters, lasted a long time. And it was understandable because once and for all the foundations of the work that Toscano and his staff will have to carry forward have been laid. The training camp begins in a month, we talked about logistics, the technical staff: the historic Napoli assistant, the athletic trainer Andrea Nocera will arrive and then we will see if other names will be added.
It remains to be seen what will happen to Michele Zeoli and his deputy from last season Leo Vanzetto. It is whispered in many quarters that Vanzetto will remain on the staff and perhaps will be included in Toscano’s staff. And Zeoli? We’ll see at the press conference.
