A total financial endowment of 15 million euros in the five-year period 2023-2027with pre-information calls already before June 20th, for protect endangered breeds and limit the extent of damage resulting from the spread of bovine tuberculosis and brucellosis. This is the heart of the plan put in place by the Region to support Calabrian farmers, following the initiative of the presidency of the regional council and the agriculture department.

The planned interventions, in continuity with the 2014-2022 programming, will concern, first of all, the breeding of breeds (such as the Podolica cow, the rustic goat, the black pig, the Nicastra goat and the Aspromontana goat) typical of the southern Apennines and inherent to the history of Calabria, of extreme value and at risk of extinction.

For them, as early as 2022, with a specific resolution of the Council, a procedure was started that thanks to the work of technical-scientific commissions made up of experts from the Region, Arsac and the three Calabrian universities, led to the establishment of the regional biodiversity registerwhich currently contains 9 plant species and 4 animals (podolica, Aspromonte goat, black pig, Nicastre goat).

Specifically, through the 10 million tender for the Calabria CSR 2023-2027 (2 million for each year), which will be published in advance information by 20 June next, it will be a contribution is recognized to breeders committed to keeping breeds that represent an identity trait on the farm of the internal areas of the South.

Within the same period, with a five-year coverage of 5 millionone for each year, will see the light on call for compensation to damaged farmers from bovine tuberculosis and brucellosis. In particular, the ASP of Crotone, in concert with the Agriculture and Health Departments, has prepared an extraordinary plan which will extend throughout 2024 and 2025.

The Plan will be implemented through specific measures and with the collaboration of the professionals involved in the control activity and combating the spread of the two epizootics, which cause damage in the sectors of meat, milk and derivatives production: currently, farmers receiving a culling order from the competent ASP are already paid compensation, established by decree of the Minister of Health, which is however significantly lower than the market value of the animals killed.

The regional tender will instead allow the difference in cost compared to the market value to be recognised, in the form of community aid, exclusively in favor of those who will buy back the animals for the reconstitution of the livestock herd.
