The moment of Palio della Vittoria 2024 is approaching with great strides and the anticipation grows more and more. The appointment is scheduled as per tradition on June 29th in Anghiarion the day of Saints Peter and Paul and in eternal memory of the historian battle fought in 1440a clash that redefined the boundaries of Tuscany and who also became famous thanks to it to the mysterious work of Leonardo Da Vinci. The one in 2024 will be the 20th act of the modern erapromoted and organized, as always, byPalio della Vittoria Cultural Association. The program will open at exactly 6.30 pm with the historical re-enactment of the Battle, characterized by the entry into Piazza Baldaccio of the Mayors, the knights, the historical processions of Anghiari, Sansepolcro, Florence and Arezzo and which will culminate at sunset with the “Craziest race in the world”.
The valiant athletes, representing the municipalities they belong to, will compete in the 1440 meters which characterize the walking race, with the possibility of physically hindering each other and/or helping the team captain through holds, pushes, tackles. An authentic one sporting battle (within the limits of what is permitted obviously) made even more challenging by the grim slopes from the St. Martin’s wrinkle, the climb that distinguishes Anghiari and which will take the athletes to the finish line, located in Piazza Baldaccio. The competitive competition will start from the Cappella della Vittoria, in the place where the battle took place on 29 June 1440. Battle of Anghiari And will reward not the individual runner, but the Common represented, which he will receive the coveted Palio.
At the end of the awards ceremony, along the ancient walls of the town, in a festive atmosphere and in a splendid place, the victory dinner cheered by the Compagnia dei Ricomposti. The 20th edition of the modern era will be characterized by many innovations, as underlined by the president Valter Capacci. “The Palio is approaching and we are starting to feel the vibrations for an event that is always eagerly awaited, by the people of Anghiari and more generally by the whole territory. The organizational machine has been at work for some time now and as it is the twentieth edition we are developing many new features, also to allow those who come to Anghiari in person to experience even more emotions. The Palio della Vittoria was created this year by the women of Tombolo and it is truly wonderful, there will be many new municipalities that will participate in the race for perhaps a record number of athletes at the start and, thanks to the collaboration with the Pietro Mascagni Philharmonic, we have enriched the Historical Procession of Anghiari on a musical level by inserting a brass band. We will present the other new features in the conference, but in the meantime don’t make any commitments because on June 29th we’ll be waiting for you in Anghiari, from 6.30pm until dinner on the walls”
