Vanessa Ferrari had to say goodbye to the dream of participating in Paris Olympics 2024. The strongest and most successful Italian gymnast in history has in fact achieved a calf injury during a training session, thus not being able to participate in next week’s Championships and leaving them out of the small group of athletes who aspire to the blue leotard for the Games. The champion from Brescia has not competed for three years, that is, since August 2021 when she won the silver medal in the floor exercise at the Tokyo Olympics.

The 33-year-old will not be able to take part in the five-round event, after having already made four consecutive appearances in the most important sporting event. The 2006 all-around World Champion was looking to get into better physical condition after some problems that had tormented her in recent months and was expected to be on the rise in view of the Italian Championships, where she would try to earn her Olympic call-up.

Il DT Enrico Casella he dwelt on what happened to his pupil in a statement released to Brescia Oggi: “We were aware that with Vanessa we were taking a risk every time she took a simple run-up.. Unfortunately, the physical ailments of the last few months have certainly not helped his preparation. If you are not able to train continuously, with the expected workloads, it could happen that you hurt yourself.”

The Technical Director then continued: “It’s a shame because Vanessa was starting to jump again with that technique and harmony that distinguished her throughout her great career. And then she had chosen a thrilling musical accompaniment. I hope at least this will not be lost and that you will be able to present it perhaps in some exhibition or in other contexts.”
