After a two-week adventure, the bull fugitive who held the authorities in check Vicenza was finally captured at dawn today. The joint operation of the State Police and the Ulss veterinary service put an end to the series of dangers that the cattle had created by wandering between the industrial area of the city and the A4 motorway.

The bull of Vicenza

The bull, weighing approximately 5 quintals, had escaped on May 23rd after an accident between the Vicenza Ovest and Montecchio Maggiore toll booths. On that occasion, a lorry loaded with 51 heads of livestock overturned, causing the death of some animals and the escape of most of them, as well as the temporary closure of the A4 motorway.

Most of the animals involved in the accident had been promptly recovered, except for one particularly aggressive one, which had been spotted along the A4 even in the previous days. Attempts to capture it had been in vain as the bull had proven hostile towards the officers.

It was precisely the report of a citizen that allowed the bull to be identified again in the industrial area during the early hours of the night. A specialist from the veterinary service, aboard a police car, managed to hit the animal with a narcotic dart, fired from a specially equipped rifle. After some time for the sedative to take effect, the bull was safely approached and transferred to an authorized stable.

The epilogue of this story puts to rest concerns for the safety of motorists and people in the area, demonstrating the effectiveness of coordination between law enforcement and veterinary services in dealing with unusual situations such as this.
