The Cultural Association “Il Volto di Velluto” is pleased to announce a double theatrical event which will be held on 15 and 16 June 2024 at the Varese Theatre. Two evenings dedicated to culture and solidaritywhere the entire proceeds will be donated to the Giacomo Ascoli Foundation, involved in the construction of the Il Faro building, a safe haven for the families of haematological oncology children.
Era Bello – 15 June 2024, 9.00 pm
“Era Bello” is a dramatic comedy that brings to the stage the story of Zeno, an elderly widower marked by senile dementia, and his four children. The plot revolves around the decision to move Zeno to a retirement home and to sell the old country house, provoking a whirlwind of emotions and buried memories.
Director’s Note: The direction enhances the narrative through the skilful use of atmospheres and lights, creating an environment that reflects the delicate balance between the lightness of the comedy and the depth of the family drama. The scenography, although sparse, becomes a mirror of the characters’ emotions. Borderline – 16 June 2024, 6.30 pm
Performed by young people from the Velvet Face Youth theater course, aged between 17 and 23, “Borderline” is a dramatic comedy set in the fictional state of Ka-boom. The narrative follows the stories of characters who oscillate between the ridiculous and the tragic, offering a biting satire on modern divisions, authoritarian regimes and corruption.
Director’s Note: The direction focuses on an approach that enhances the internal contradictions of the characters and the drama of the events, emotionally involving the audience and inviting them to reflect on social and political divisions. The minimalist set design uses powerful symbols such as a dividing wall to represent ethnic divisions.
