June is a month traditionally full of events for astronomy enthusiasts and this year too does not disappoint expectations. Here we see the main astronomical events reported by 3bMETEO with information from the Italian Amateur Astronomers Union, Dissemination Commission.
Our satellite will put on a show with the Strawberry Moon on the night of Saturday 22 June which will reach its peak at 03:08 (Italian time). According to the forecast for Como there could be some clouds in the sky so it is always a good idea to check the weather forecast first.
This Moon owes its name to one of the most loved fruits of the summer. It is also called the Full Honey Moon because many weddings are celebrated at this time of year. We feel more and more the desire to travel, to be outdoors and to move and even the planets seem to support this idea of vitality. Its color will not be pink, but still a blinding white light that will illuminate the night.
The show will be better in places with little artificial light. You can try contacting the Sormano observatory (here is the link), which however offers high appointments with the sky in June and July. If the weather conditions are unfavorable it will still be possible to see the spectacle of the Fragola moon online (for example on Virtual Telescope Project).
For enthusiasts we would also like to point out that on Saturday 15 June (starting at 9.00 pm) in Albavilla (Como) an interesting evening dedicated to the Moon is scheduled at the Sidus Albaee Social Observatory with the association’s telescopes (and binoculars). Astronomy other events in June
Thursday 20 June the summer solstice will officially mark the entry into the summer season and will be the longest day of the year with 15 hours and 15 minutes of light from 5.36am until sunset at 8.51pm.
On Monday 3 June the Moon and Mars will be in conjunction in the constellation of Pisces, exchanging a “kiss” just before the sun rises. The Moon will then be in the constellation of Taurus where on Wednesday 5 June it will meet the Pleiades, Jupiter and Mercury, while on Wednesday 26 On Thursday 27 June the Moon and Saturn will be in conjunction in the constellation of Aquarius.
June will also be a beautiful month for those who want to express their wishes. The Eta Ophiuchi swarm will continue to offer some shooting stars until Tuesday 18 June and the Tau Herculids will be active already at the beginning of the month, without disturbing the moonlight.
