He chose Piazza Almerici, renovated and pedestrianized at the end of the Three Squares project which the opposition has always harshly contested against the outgoing mayor Enzo Lattuca to close the electoral campaign which sees him as a candidate for the second term at the helm of the city.
In the background the Malatestiana Library, before him on stage the mayor of Cesenatico Matteo Gozzoli, the outgoing mayor of San Mauro Pascoli Luciana Garbuglia and the representative of the students of the “Monti” high school Ginevra Poletti. In front of an audience of supporters and sympathizers and the allies of the coalition: the candidates of the Pd, Cesena 2024, Movimento 5 Stelle, Civica Popolare, Patto per Cesena, Fondamenta – Alleanza Verdi Sinistra. The first thanks goes to them: «This electoral campaign would not have been possible to do as we did without this great collective commitment. We ran an electoral campaign to talk about our proposals but also to tell you the truth.”
The truth, for example, is the fact that «In Cesena there is a housing emergency, which we have worked hard on and which we have not yet resolved and therefore it will continue to be one of our priorities». Then “we don’t like the station as it is today” and the commitment to transform it has already translated into 20 million in investments. Another “truth” said in this campaign is that public health “is seriously called into question by a national model that aims to dismantle it”. He mentions the new hospital (“For 9 months we have been waiting for Minister Schillaci’s green light for the project without which the Local Health Authority will not launch the tender”) but reiterates: “We need to focus on increasingly home-based care. For this reason, with the Local Health Authority we are committed to making municipal properties in the neighborhoods available to general practitioners and community nurses.”
Relaunches the commitment to schools and kindergartens, already at the center of the first mandate, reiterating the project to expand the possibilities of stopping also in the afternoon to make them increasingly places of sociality for boys and girls as well as a support in reconciling life times and work for families. Even places of culture and sport will increasingly be conceived as “fundamental social infrastructures”.
Return to «Villages, not suburbs», one of the slogans of the 2019 electoral campaign. «I believe it is a fact. We will have to do more and faster, but I believe that no one, wherever they live, feels on the margins.” Relaunches the commitment to greenery and the environment, the Bicipolitana project and urban forests. Then he mentions three other themes that are close to his heart: the elderly, the commitment to working on fragility, but without limiting himself to declining the theme in this sense. Then work: “more, safe, for everyone, and fairly paid” and then security, on which there is no lack of criticism for the exploitation of adversaries.
The final part is the most emotional one: «The most incredible thing I have learned in recent years is that in Cesena beautiful things are everywhere. In every neighborhood, in every hamlet. The mayor’s task is not to replace the voters but to enhance, bring together, protect and multiply the thousands of beautiful things that spontaneously flourish in one’s city every day.” So he played his role even in the days of the flood. «In those dramatic days, good things were everywhere and they happened only because in Cesena we knew how to work, suffer and rejoice together. Together, because in Cesena the construction of the future is a collective effort that passes through the recognition of diversity as richness and strength and not through the isolated choice of a leader or small power groups.” A final appeal to go and vote and then the final farewell: «A good wind is blowing, so let’s open the sails. It’s time to set sail.”
