Stop the Gigafactory, “in the face of the supply chain”

The clouds that have gathered in recent days over the Gigafactory of batteries for electric cars in Termoli are worrying regional politics.
The meeting scheduled for yesterday at Mimit (between unions and companies involved) was postponed to June 11th after the decision of Acc, the joint venture between Stellantis, Mercedes-Benz and TotalEnergies, to postpone the discussions on the contents of the project.
The 5s regional councilor Roberto Gravina asked for clarity on what is happening. «The legitimate concerns of workers continue to grow – he remarked – especially because the silence around the issue of the Termoli Gigafactory continues to be impenetrable. No news is circulated regarding the state of relations with ACC, not even in the specific commissions that are convened in the Regional Council and this lack of transparency only fuels uncertainties and fears. What is most worrying – he added – is the suspicion that this silence is deliberate, aimed at suppressing problems that would be, to say the least, relevant for the future of the industrial and economic development of our region”. Then the appeal to the institutions and companies involved: «Only through transparency and collaboration will it be possible to find concrete solutions that guarantee a solid and prosperous future for the Termoli Gigafactory and for the entire community».
The exponent of Costruire democracy Massimo Romano presented a question to president Rooberti and to the councilor for economic development Di Lucente asking for immediate intervention by the Region towards the Ministry of Business to understand the actual intentions of the company. «Without prejudice to the private decision-making sphere of the company, it is well known that the fate of the Termoli investment is intertwined with a level of economic planning of national interest, within the framework of Italian industrial policy, with respect to which the Molise Region must claim guarantee of continuing to preserve a central role that passes through a political decision by the government. It is sad to note – Romano’s comment – that the numerous meetings that were held in Rome on the topic, the outcomes of which were commented with triumphalistic tones perhaps a little too hastily by our regional representatives, demonstrate once again how ephemeral the weight of Molise in national institutional dynamics and how little consideration our region enjoys in national political balances. So much for the institutional supply chain that they come to tell us about at every election.”
