ROME (ITALPRESS) – On the morning of 30 May 2024, in the provinces of Milan (MI), Monza (MB), Mede (PV) and Brindisi (BR) the Carabinieri of the Operational Section of the Rho Company implemented an order of precautionary custody issued by the GIP of the Court of Milan, against 10 South American subjects (2 women and 8 men) held responsible in various capacities for the crimes of aggravated theft in conspiracy and receiving stolen goods. In detail, the Carabinieri investigations, started in February 2024, made it possible to ascertain that the criminal group with an operational base in Milan had planned and committed 27 aggravated thefts perpetrated from September last year to the end of May throughout Lombardy and in Piedmont.
The seriality of the “hits” carried out was characterized by the typology of the victims: always elderly people; from the place where the thefts were perpetrated: always near ATMs; from the modus operandi: for each crime the suspects positioned themselves near the banking institution, selected the victim – precisely because of his age and therefore greater vulnerability – “surrounded” him in a discreet manner and after distracting him, throwing some small denomination coins or banknotes, they deftly took possession of the sum of money just given. There were numerous expedients that the group implemented to evade investigations, including the continuous change of cell phone users, the interchange of roles between the various members of the association in the different phases of commission of crimes and the use of cars rented through nominees, which they misappropriated without returning them upon expiry of the contracts. Already on 8 May 2024, the Carabinieri managed to arrest 3 members of the criminal group in the act and immediately return the stolen money, 500 euros, to the victim, a 79-year-old man.
