THE QUESTION

Suffocating roads, incomplete cycle path, overpass never built and mosquitoes. These are just some of the issues that the inhabitants of the Cardeto neighborhood are dealing with. Having overcome the issue of the park with its reopening, residents in the area are once again making themselves heard on some issues that have not been resolved for years. The one promoting the complaints of a group of citizens, as he is keen to point out, is Raffaele Mastrogiovanni. «He says we have been reporting these issues since April 2023. In this period of time we have met 5 councilors, from the previous and new administration, but the situation has not changed to date.” Going into the merits of the problems, Mastrogiovanni speaks of an unsustainable situation when it comes to traffic. «Aside from the fact that no one respects the highway code anymore and every day we witness arguments between motorists, scooter riders and pedestrians, continues the spokesperson of the protest – the road has become impassable especially because heavy vehicles, which park on the sidewalks, precluding exit from the driveways and the streets adjacent to Viale Battisti. Cars and scooters travel along the main road at high speed.” In this regard, Mastrogiovanni recalls that “we are still waiting for the placement of bollards, speed check columns or other solutions such as cameras at the most dangerous intersections”. The parking problem goes hand in hand with the traffic problem. «They are insufficient – says Mastrogiovanni – especially on Saturdays: despite the stopping bans, an “urban guerrilla” situation is created. There is still no mention of the area in front of the Repsol petrol station owned by the Region where new car parks could be created for park users, just as the narrowing of the pavements, which would create new spaces, has not yet been examined. The project advanced by the previous interlocutors on the creation of twenty parking spaces in Viale Battisti continues – it is and will remain a chimera for all of us. We have been asked several times to create two stations for the disabled in front of the pharmacy, to restore loading and unloading in via Gabelli and to place mirrors on some driveways but we were not listened to.” Two other issues concern the overpass on via Bramante and the cycle path. «With respect to the first, despite the promises made by many politicians – he adds – the problem is still unresolved and citizens have enormous problems getting to via Bramante. As for the cycle path, after the underpass it still needs to be completed.” Residents also complain about the failure to reseal the manholes on Viale Battisti which makes them “noisy” especially at night, the pedestrian crossings that need to be redone and in particular those relating to spaces dedicated to disabled people, the pruning of the two acacias in Viale Battisti from where they fell. the dry branches, the dog area not yet built. Finally the problem of mosquitoes. «For years we have been urging, in the spring period, delarvation and subsequently disinfestation, recalls Mastrogiovanni – We proposed using bat boxes for the shelter of bats which feed on more than 2000 mosquitoes per night, but unfortunately this neighborhood is not present in the municipal plans”.
